Fall 2022 Latinx Thriving Institution Initiative Updates

September 14, 2022

Dear Campus Community,

Whether it’s your first time on campus, or you are returning again, Bienvenidxs a Berkeley - Welcome to Berkeley! It has been a very busy summer for the Latinx-Thriving Institution (LTI) Initiative team, and we are excited to share our collective progress with you, the Berkeley community.

LTI Steering Committee

The LTI steering committee launched last spring and has been working throughout the summer to clarify, update and prioritize the Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) Task Force recommendations in preparation for the launch of the implementation committee this fall. This work required the team to synthesize input from various stakeholders, actively participating in socialization efforts, and set actionable metrics and priorities for the ongoing implementation efforts. Thanks to our partners in the Office of Planning and Analysis (OPA) and Equity & Inclusion, we took a deeper dive into the data available to us to learn more about the actual federal HSI designation calculation to inform how we clarify and prioritize the task force recommendations. Our work will continue into the fall as we prepare to launch the Implementation Committee. More to come!

Fall Town Hall

The next Latinx Thriving Institution (LTI) Initiative Town Hall is scheduled for Wednesday, October 19 from 4:30 until 6 pm. The goal of the School of Social Welfare’s Annual Forum on Social Justice is to advance social justice in ways informed by and resulting in research, public policy, and practice that advance a more equitable democracy given the fundamental relationship between health and economic vitality for all members of society.

The inaugural forum will elevate Latinx scholarship on the UC Berkeley campus by featuring impactful scholars, related professionals, and colleagues, committed to lifting Latinx social positionality and wellbeing.
